More people thinking yandere is some passive trait, like hair color, that will stay no matter what...

Most yandere won't get an obsession towards every decent person they meet, so advertising with your yandere-ness seems kind of attention whoring to me...

If someone who knew about the yandere type found out (s)he was genuinely yandere, that would mean they had an incredibly obsessive crush on someone, and would never even think about posting on some dating site proclaiming to be yandere.

TL;DR:

• Obsessive towards one specific person : yandere;
• Obsessively trying to get a relationship like this : lonely/attention whore.

No, no, no. A yandere has to DEVELOP naturally. Whether they're psychologically pre-inclined to do so or not, their insane over-the-top feelings and attachments have to COME from somebody. Meeting a person online who just declares they are now a yandere for whoever they find on some dating site... it ain't real. The entire part of yanderes that is appealing stems from the genuine emotions and urges felt BY them. Only ever watched the anime and I’d still label her as Yangire.
One of her clones in the show seems to be more on the Yandere side but that clone is also killed by a Yangire clone which the majority seems to be.
