No idea what you started with or what you changed. I see a couple dozen improvements that could be made. Icons that you don't use daily can go in a folder on the desktop. You can get to any file or folder you want by using and properly setting up Windows Explorer. Anyone that remembers File Manager in Windows 3.1 won't use My Computer though you have neither, just shortcuts to folders...
actually those folders aren't shortcuts. 90% of the stuff on my desktop I use daily, if not, bi-daily. With the exeptions of some of the games and the shortcut to cd-rom..... I do need to get rid of that....

I always save/store recent files in My Documents and sort them there and move them to other hard drives later. When I open windows explorer it opens in My Documents giving me quick access to those files and folders while not cluttering my desktop. Also to sort things when the folder pane is on the left.
