Fuck you guys, it's time for another one since I have some time before my last final.
There's one rule of survival horror you cannot break: extremely limited supplies. Once you have enough ammunition, it's not survival horror anymore. It's an action game. That's why zombies aren't scary any more. A monster is only scary if you have no way to defeat it.
Zombies have become nothing but bullet sponges in media. They aren't scary anymore. They're supposed to be fun. Unarmed, no tougher than the average human (if you remember to go for the head), perfectly acceptable to massacre in droves. When you pit a few superhuman action heroes with unlimited ammunition against a horde of zombies, there's no tension, there's no suspense. There's just mindless action.
So let's make zombies scary again.
Most of the prologue has been cut since it wouldn't work in prose (especially not in second person). I've contacted a guy to see if I can get him to pen it for me in comic format. If and when that gets done, I'll toss it up.
In the meanwhile, zombie text adventure RPG. Think The Sims + Fallout 3. Think Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Think realistic to the point of frustrating and terrible gameplay.
